{"id":701,"date":"2015-05-10T23:17:02","date_gmt":"2015-05-10T23:17:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.schechtermd.com\/?p=701"},"modified":"2015-05-10T23:19:20","modified_gmt":"2015-05-10T23:19:20","slug":"sinus-problems-nasal-allergy-treatment-natural","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.schechtermd.com\/dev\/sinus-problems-nasal-allergy-treatment-natural\/","title":{"rendered":"Sinus problems, Nasal Allergy Treatment, Natural"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_703\" style=\"width: 290px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.schechtermd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/bandage_on_nose.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-703\" class=\"size-full wp-image-703\" src=\"http:\/\/www.schechtermd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/bandage_on_nose.jpg\" alt=\"allergy treatment natural\" width=\"280\" height=\"268\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-703\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Saline irrigation<\/p><\/div>\n<p>There is a natural approach that I recommend to my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.schechtermd.com\/family-medicine-physician\/\">Family Medicine<\/a> patients in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.schechtermd.com\/culver-city-ca-medical-office\/\">Culver City<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.schechtermd.com\/beverly-hills-ca-medical-office\/\">Beverly Hills<\/a> that present with sinus problems, nasal allergies, and nasal congestion.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It is called sinus irrigation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Simply put, flushing out your nasal passages into the sinus cavities with saline (salt water) is incredibly helpful for many patients.\u00a0 Saline is like sea water, and is a natural solution akin to our own blood or mucous, chemically similar.\u00a0 Irrigation speeds up the normal cleaning of the sinuses that the cilia or little hair cells try to accomplish with their synchronized movements.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You may feel that sense of clearing in the nasal passages after a steamy shower, a swim, or sometimes just inverting one&#8217;s head while lying or rolling on the floor.\u00a0\u00a0 Sinus irrigation flushes out the mucus buildup, the debris from the day, and sometimes bits of infective material as well.<br \/>\nThe sinuses are hollow air spaces in the skull connected to the nasal passages.\u00a0 Unfortunately, the &#8216;hallways&#8217; are kind of narrow and sometimes they need a good cleaning out to avoid that &#8216;dusty closet&#8217; feel.\u00a0 People who tend toward seasonal allergies, live in\/near polluted areas (like Los Angeles) or have other dust\/pollen\/dander exposures find the treatment very helpful.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The best product I&#8217;ve found is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/B000A0S5KC\/?tag=mindbodyco-20\">Neil-Med<\/a>. \u00a0I use it myself. \u00a0They make a squirt bottle that&#8217;s my favorite.\u00a0 They also make an updated Neti-Pot.\u00a0 The latter uses gravity and some people don&#8217;t like the neck movements involved in positioning it properly.\u00a0 The former produces a pressured stream that you control with squeezing the bottle with your hand.\u00a0 Non-swimmers sometimes find a bit of adjustment to the water flowing in one nostril and out the other with this method.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Use warm water (ideally pre-boiled or distilled\/sterile) mixed with saline in the correct proportions and it&#8217;s a comfortable experience for most.
